The Penn Program in Environmental Humanities (PPEH) harnesses the power of interdisciplinary learning to understand the complexities of human interaction with the environment, and uses that knowledge to make a tangible difference.

In the fall of 2019, students in a PPEH graduate seminar worked with a South Philadelphia community to design a project called Futures Beyond Refining, to help neighbors imagine a healthier future after living in the shadow of the largest refinery on the East Coast.
