Earlier this month, Emilio Parrado, professor and the chair of the Department of Sociology, spoke on the "New Realities of Latin American Migration to the United States: Implications for Policy Discussions" as part of the Penn Arts and Sciences Knowledge by the Slice series, which gives the campus community a chance to hear from some of the School’s outstanding faculty members. Parrado's research focuses on demography, international migration, Hispanic immigrant adaptation, social change and reproductive health in Latin America, and family and fertility behavior. He is currently a primary investigator in a study on the relationship between immigration and fertility conducted by the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Parrado is the author of dozens of scholarly articles and is a member of the Committee on Population of the National Academies and of the International Migration Section of the American Sociological Association.
