A Semester of Mentoring

Alums representing media and technology, film production, investment banking, and more offer advice to undergrads at mentoring meals, roundtables, and coffee breaks.

Six events made up the College Alumni Mentoring Series this semester, including mentoring meals with Maria McClay, C’01, who has spent more than two decades working as an advisor, scaler, and investor at organizations such as Google, Gucci, and McKinsey, and Matthew Mintzer, C’08, Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Restructuring for investment bank Piper Sandler.

It also included a coffee break with Emmy award-winning producer Randi Michel, C’91, whose next film projects include The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear in conjunction with Queen Latifah and her Flavor Unit Entertainment.

A panel discussion in late February about careers in media and tech involved Caroline McCaffery, C’96, CEO and founder of ClearOPS Inc., Allie Michler Kopelman, C’09, Contributing Editor, Fashion Initiatives, at Vogue magazine, and Patrick Steel, C’89, Senior Advisor at Antenna Group. Still to come, a panel on careers in data science co-sponsored by the Data Driven Discovery Initiative.

This comes on the heels of a rich fall semester that comprised conversations about careers in biological sciences and separately, in finance, along with two mentoring meals, one with Bing Chen, C’09, CEO and co-founder of Gold House, and another with Richard Kaiser, C’91, a professor of ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University.
